Circa 1972 Dean J. Lowery, 81, Flora, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at 9:19 p.m. at the Mulberry Health & Ret irement Community in Mulberry.

Born July 12, 1928, in Flora, he was the son of the late Jesse "J.C." and Ruth Richter Lowery. He was a 1947 graduate of Flora High School. On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Eunice Jane Kellenburger at the Guernsey Church of the Brethren near Monticello. She survives.

Mr. Lowery was an insurance agent at Lowery Insurance Agency from 1947-1981. From 1979 to the present, he was farm manager for Lowery Farms.

He had been a member of the Flora First Baptist Church since March 8, 1945.

He was a member of Flora Masonic Lodge F&AM #6505 (now Mt. Zion #211) since 1962, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Flora Chapter 490 Order of the Eastern Star (now Helen Bonebrake Chapter #437) since 1963. He was also a charter member of the Flora Lions Club, serving until 1981.

Mr. Lowery served on the Maple Lawn Cemetery Board of Directors.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and his cats.

Surviving with his wife are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and great-greatgreat nieces and nephews.

Preceding him death on May 16, 2009, was his twin brother, Don H. Lowery.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Reinke Funeral Home in Flora. The Rev. Al Grumbling will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
