Citizen tip helps police apprehend burglar
An observant Flora resident is being credited with getting police to a burglary in progress at Geno-O's that resulted in the culprit's arrest.
Dustin S. Peglow, 29, Indianapolis, is being held in Carroll County Jail following his arrest on two counts of burglary. Additional charges are pending.
Jeff Hodson who resides at 713 E. Main St., was up early the morning of July 26. He saw a man park a car by the park and then walk behind his house and then over to Mann's car lot. Hodson called 911.
Officer Josh Disinger responded. According to his report, he found the dead bolt on the front door at Gene-O's had been forcefully separated from the door frame. He then heard a crashing noise from inside. As he entered the building, Peglow apparently fled out the back door.
Hodson, who had remained on the phone with dispatch, said that the man had left the building and was running toward his car.
Because Disinger had already run the license plate, he suspected the man was heading to an apartment on Hoop Street where the vehicle's owner resided.
Disinger headed there and was joined by Delphi Police Officer Justin Wilson and Indiana State Trooper Jarred Foutch. They apprehended Peglow in the apartment of his girlfriend.
A second burglary was discovered later that day at Meek's Chiropractic Office at the southeast corner of SR 18 and Third Street.
Evidence found linked Peglow to that break-in as well, said Flora Town Marshal Paul Redmon.
Redmon said that additional evidence found linked Peglow to a third break-in. The investigating officers discovered a prescription bottle and birth certificate that did not belong to Peglow.
Redmon said that they learned after calling the number on the prescription bottle that it belonged to a psychiatrist in Indianapolis who had walked in on a break-in at his residence on July 14.
Redmon is often heard saying that police welcome tips from the public when they suspect something does not look or seem right. In this case, that tip paid off.
