Old Settlers entertainment begins tonight
      There is something for everyone at the 154th annual Carroll County Old Settlers celebration beginning tonight, Aug. 5, and running through Aug. 8, from rides and amusements to the Rendezvous encampment at canal park. Fair goers can browse through the historical museum and art show in the courthouse or visit the Opera House Gallery and take a tour.

      Valarie Britton Shinbur of Lafayette, formerly of Delphi, will compete in a national karaoke contest through Karaoke World Championships USA (KWCUSA). She qualified for the national competition by advancing through the local, state and regional levels.

Charity motorcycle ride seeks donations
      An annual charity motorcycle ride, sponsored by Flora Lions Club, will leave Flora for Iowa on Friday. Riders will return on Sunday. A dozen riders, including three club members, will participate. They are seeking sponsorship donations that will be donated to Riley Children's Hospital and a neo natal care unit in Lafayette.

Citizen tip helps police apprehend burglar
      An observant Flora resident is being credited with getting police to a burglary in progress at Geno-O's that resulted in the culprit's arrest. Dustin S. Peglow, 29, Indianapolis, is being held in Carroll County Jail following his arrest on two counts of burglary. Additional charges are pending.

Sheriff warns of local lottery scam
      Carroll County Sheriff Tony Burns has received information from the Howard County Sheriff's Department warning area residents of a lottery scam. Several households in Howard County have received letters informing them that they have won a shoppers sweepstakes lottery. A fraudulent check is included for $4,785.
