Carroll County FSA to host ACRE Program workshops

Comet staff report

Starting Monday, Farm Service Agency Carroll County Executive Director Jacob Maxwell will hold several workshops regarding the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program. The workshops will be held at the Carroll County FSA Office located at 1523 N. U.S. 421, Delphi.

Space is limited. To reserve a place, call (765) 564- 2849 for times and availability, or e-mail jacob.maxwell@in.usda.gov for more details.

Owners and operators have until Aug. 14 to elect and enroll a farm into the ACRE program for the 2009 crop year. The next opportunity to enroll will be for the 2010 crop year. The ACRE program provides for additional assistance for eligible crop producers when both state revenue and farm revenue fall below guarantee and benchmark levels.

"Current trends in the commodity markets have generated increased interest in the ACRE program," said Maxwell. "Several resources are available through organizations like Purdue Extension and National Corn Growers to help with the decision making. We hope to clarify what the program is and is not, as well as direct those interested in learning more to the resources available."
