Donald W. Campbell
Circa 1970s Sgt. First Class Donald Wayne Campbell, 55, of Royal Center, died at 5 a.m. July 10, 2009, near Peru.
Born March 10, 1954, in Logansport, he was the son of Richard S. and Meredith Sherrill Campbell. His marriage was to Lisa Odom on July 3, 1976, at Faith Lutheran Church near Deer Creek. She survives.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1978. He was serving his third tour of duty in Iraq when he became ill.
Sgt. Campbell was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 1728 and American Legion Post 60, both of Logansport.
He loved to fish, hunt, his cars, and most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Jason Campbell of Peru; three daughters, Emma Evadue Campbell of Iowa City, Iowa, Sara Elizabeth Campbell of Peru, and Bree Ann Campbell of Iowa City; a sister, Barbara Jean (Campbell) Broughton of Burnettsville; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Alan Campbell, and his paternal grandparents, Orville and Evadue Campbell, who participated in raising him.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cree Funeral Home, Camden. A U.S. Army chaplain will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow at Hopewell Cemetery, Deer Creek. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
