Garden Spot Express

2009-07-15 / Community

The long-awaited public service van has arrived in Flora. Officially called the Garden Spot Express (GSE), it serves all residents of Flora and Monroe Township. Paid for with a matching grant, it is owned by Area IV Agency on Aging & Community Services, and the only cost to the Town of Flora is for fuel. Scheduling for individuals and groups is through the Flora Senior Center, 967-3400. Volunteers drive the van, and more volunteers are needed. The van runs seven days a week (if a driver is available) and passenger cost is by donation only. The van has 12 seats plus two wheelchair spots. Brochures telling more about the service are available at the Senior Center. Those pictured above represent the Flora Town Council, GSE volunteer board, and the Monroe Twp. trustee and advisory board. At far right, Stan Minnick, Area IV transportation director, is handing the keys to town council president Josh Ayres. Others pictured, l-r, are David Albaugh, Peg Clark, Vince Seward, Pat Wisler-Meade, Joretta Tinsman, Janice Marvin, Kenneth Fife, Terri Wine, Lois Ayres, Scott Sisson, and Al Grumbling.
