Master Gardeners beautify and educate
      Carroll County Master Gardeners Club has completed several projects in the county, as well as in surrounding counties, since forming in February 2008. Its first project was designing, planting and harvesting a community garden at the Flora Senior Center. Many members of the senior community enjoyed its bounty.

Paperback books are being collected for troops overseas
      Carroll County Republican Women are supporting American troops deployed overseas through Operation Paperback. The club is collecting paperback books this week at the Carroll County 4-H Fair. There is also a drop box at the Carroll County Family Y in Flora.

Camden renews CCEDC partnership
      Carroll County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Daryl Smith proposed the 2009 contract for increased Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) funding from Camden at last Thursday's town council meeting. "We are willing to be as open as we can be on salary," Smith explained. "There is no salary increase.

No federal aid for storm damage
      Carroll County Emergency Management Director Dave McDowell has announced that according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security storms which tore through the county May 15 did not create sufficient enough damage to reach the "state threshold" required to receive FEMA aid.

Carroll Manor hires marketing/activities coordinator
      Jacque Eaglebarger has been hired by Carroll Manor for marketing and group activities through the Senior Community Service Employment Program. Eaglebarger is available to the public for tours of the facility by calling (765) 564-4340 after noon.

Be vigilant against West Nile virus
      State health officials are urging Hoosiers to take steps to protect themselves from the West Nile virus. West Nile virus is transmitted by mosquitoes. Last year, there were four human cases of West Nile virus in the state, and recently, the first reported mosquito groups have tested positive for West Nile virus.

Local healthcare providers work together to find answers
      Few would dare hold themselves personally accountable for the county's current financial situation. However, Delphi resident Tom Brodar of Brodar Chiropractic Office in Delphi said he is both "the problem and the solution" to the county's consequent suffering. He said that in attempting to find a cure, he initiated the first countywide healthcare summit last month.

Make it a save-a-life summer
      According to an American Red Cross press release, helping to save lives through blood donation is as much a part of summer as baseball, hot dogs and apple pie. "You can make a huge difference and help save a life this summer through the simple act of giving blood," CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, Sharyn Whitman said.

      Producers are being reminded of the importance of timely electing and enrolling in the new Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program or the traditional Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP). The deadline to enroll in ACRE or DCP for 2009 is Aug. 14.

      Flora-Monroe Twp. The last event of the summer reading season will be a party! We love to celebrate at the Flora Library, and we will mark the end of summer reading with a bang. Come party with us; we'll have games, an edible craft, treats, and lots of "creative" fun. The program is also a reception for the art classes in June.
