Wabash & Erie Canal, Inc. and the City of Delphi received $1,136,000 to build and develop the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center. The money was awarded by the Indiana Department of Transportation from Transportation Enhancement Activities (TEA) funds.
Carroll County police, fire and EMS personnel responded to a collision involving a pickup truck and a train July 3 at 5:33 p.m. at the Norfolk Southern Railway crossing located at the intersection of SR25 and CR265W in Carroll County. Neal C. McTigue, 39, Delphi and Mike J. Nette, Logansport were southbound on 265W approaching the double track crossing. McTigue reported he stopped at the posted stop sign and then began crossing the first set of tracks. A stationary car on the first track blocked his view and he began to cross the second set of tracks. The Norfolk Southern train struck the vehicle as McTigue attempted to back off the tracks.

Hospital costs were considerably different 34 years ago than they are today. A bill from Lafayette home Hospital in early 1950 showed these charges: Room and Care 12 days at $7.50, $90; Operating Room, $7.50; Dressings, $1.15; Drugs, $4.35; Laboratory Fees, $11; Total Bill, $114.
Carroll School moving Saturday; adult help only - Many workers, adults only are needed to load at the old school and unload at the new school.
All helpers should be at the old school by 8 a.m.
It is hoped that the moving will be completed by noon.
A meal will be served in the cafeteria at the new school for all workers. Besides the food brought in, roasted hog prepared by the FFA, and drink will be prepared.

Coal dealer, Roy Clauser of Delphi purchased the Haugh Coal Company which had been in operation for 104 years from Ralph Brown owner of the City Coal Yard in Monticello and was managed by Mae Rothrock.
The Delphi Bowling Alley installed automated equipment that mechanically returns the balls, sweeps the excess pins free from the alley and resets the pins. Manager Joe Coomey attended a three-week conference in Chicago to learn how to use the equipment.
The Carroll County Health Department, the local Polio Association, the County Medical Society and the Home Demonstration clubs came together to encourage all residents of Carroll County to be immunized against polio.
75 YEARS AGO
The new Sargent & Bassett filing station at the corner of Wabash and Main streets is rapidly being completed. It is making a decided improvement to the block which it is located and will be one of Delphi's modern places of business. The entire building is now being coated with light cream stucco. The west end of the building will be devoted to a sales room at the present time and the east part will be Slim's Garage, operated by Slim Hoagland. The company will handle Gulf gasoline, Miller and Diamond tires and Willard batteries. The new station will include the entire quarter block and will be very attractive not only to local customers but to all travelers along state road 25. According to a Clawson Chevrolet Sales of Delphi advertisement - "Drastic price reductions up to $50 bring Chevrolet cars to the record low price of $465."

Arthur E. Bradshaw, formerly of Delphi, now residing in Indianapolis, filed petition Thursday for the appointment of a guardian for W. H. Whittaker, until recently superintendent of the Indiana Reformatory at Jeffersonville, stating that Mr. Whittaker is a person of unsound mind. No action was taken, Judge F. B. Ross of the Probate court being out of the city.
Jesse Hughes was returned to the reformatory at Jeffersonville Tuesday for having violated his parole which he received some six weeks ago. It seems that his fondness for ice cream got him into the present difficulty, he having appropriated a can of the same to his own private use.
