SHAWN HAZELGROVE graduated May 2 from Jacksonville University, Fla., with a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation and flight operations management. A 2005 graduate of Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, he received a Navy ROTC scholarship. His commissioning ceremony was also on May 2 and he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Ensign Hazelgrove is stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Fla., and is training as a Naval Flight Officer. His parents are Nathan and Diann Hazelgrove of Cutler.

Carroll County students named to the Valparaiso University dean's list in recognition of their academic accomplishments during the spring semester are: REBECCA SHOEMAKER of Camden, sophomore news media/journalism major, and DILLON CARTER of Flora, junior art major.

EMILY BOWMAN of Bringhurst, a student at Indiana Wesleyan University, has received recognition on the National Dean's List for the spring semester of the 2009 academic year.
