Lessons from the Heart
Jeff Tomson is the pastor at Living Faith Church of the Brethren in Flora. "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
Christians were not created in the image of Christ so that we could just sit around and wait for Jesus to return. We were created to "do good works" that He has prepared for us.
With that in mind, I would like to share with you a few of the things that we at Living Faith are doing. Our desire is to be what God has called us to be, not to steal people from other churches.
Currently we are engaged in two ministries that you may have heard of the first of which is a Free Movie Matinee every third Thursday of the month. We show a movie from days gone by, hand out free popcorn and have some other activities. We target the retired community, although everyone is welcome, because we want to offer this group a chance to get out and fellowship with others from their generation. This June and July we are doing something a bit different by encouraging people to bring the children in their lives to see an older Disney movie and participate in some other activities.
We have received our charter with Angelfood Ministries which offers people the chance to buy different food boxes at a reduced price. We take orders usually until the second Saturday of the month and then distribute the orders on the last Saturday of the month. There are regular boxes, specialty packages, and prepackaged senior meals. The menu changes each month and the program accepts food stamps.
If you are interested in stretching your food dollar, contact the church office at (574) 967-4216 for a menu.
A third ministry that I want to mention is an outreach program, Upwards Flag Football and Cheerleading. This will be a spring league for 2010. More information will be coming as we finalize our plans. Stop by our tent at the Carroll County fair to check out the display.
I have told you some of the things that we are doing but there are other ministries being done through other congregations here in Carroll County. Christians were bought at a price and set aside for service to shine the light of His love.
I invite you to seek a church family this week that knows that living out His love requires more than sitting in a pew.
