County residents take part in Area IV Senior Games

The 23rd Annual Area IV Senior Games were held June 8-12 with 360 individuals from Carroll, Benton, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren and White counties taking part in the games.

The Golden Games held at three area nursing homes - Ben Hur in Crawfordsville, Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry, and the Indiana Veteran's Home in West Lafayette - were combined with the Senior Games and 180 individuals participated.

Participating from Carroll County were Mary Margaret Delaney, Charles Grider, Vera Lewis, Selma Patterson, Donna Rector, Virginia Thompson, Maryellen Thornton, and Bonita Widner.

Grider won a silver medal in the men's 1600 meter fast walk, a gold medal in shot put, and a silver medal in men's softball distance throw.

Patterson won a bronze medal in women's bowling.

Other events in which men and women competed: Track - 400 meter dash, 1600 meter run, 3200 meter run, discus and softball; euchre; bingo; golf; horseshoes; nature walk; darts; bocce ball; Biking; fitness walk; shuffleboard; stationary bike; basketball; swimming - 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 75 individual and endurance; table tennis; mini-golf; billiards; square dancing and skee ball.
