The Carroll County Public Health Nurse Hope Kinzer presented the nurse’s quarterly report to county board of health members at their Wednesday night meeting. Kinzer’s report indicated the nurse had a high level of activity in the second quarter.

The number of patients immunized rose from 126 in the first quarter to 254 in the second and the number of actual immunizations went from 410 to 819.

Six lead screenings were done. One high level was referred to the family physician. Growth and development was charted for 32 infants and one was referred to First Steps for additional evaluation. Four hemoglobin screenings were done with one low result. Five tuberculosis tests were given since the beginning of April. The county had three new reports of Hepatitis C during the quarter. The department is now equipped to perform cholesterol and diabetes screenings.

Kinzer reported the department purchased and distributed a Wii gaming system to seniors funded by a Healthy Kids Grant. Numerous recess recreational toys were purchased for local schools out of the grant funding as well.

Several prenatal vitamin groups were distributed to the Women Infant and Children (WIC) program and the Birthright Center to help decrease birth defects and increase prenatal care in county residents.

Board of health members granted Kinzer permission to hold CPR classes for $30 per participant.

The next board of health meeting will be Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the courthouse lounge.

Kinzer can be reached at (765) 564-3420 for questions.
