Plans for a new county ambulance garage to be built in Delphi moved forward at the County Commissioner's meeting. A successful bid by Walker and Sons of Elmwood.

Members of the Wabash & Eric Canal Association planned a memorial service for Jack Wroten during the July 4 celebration at the spot where the quarry water runs into the canal.

Raymond and Donna Erb of Flora opened Hometown Video & Gifts at 19 W. Main Street in Flora.

25 YEARS AGO

Sgt. Cecil J. Overmyer has been selected from among 600,000 members of the Air Force as one of 12 Outstanding Airmen for 1984.

He is a 1980 graduate of Delphi Community High School.

According to Joseph Peterson, official government weather observer for Carroll County, high temperature in June was 95.3 degrees on the 13th and the low of 50.7 degrees was on the 4th. The most precipitation on any one day was .97 on the 22nd with a total of 1.29 inches for the month.

Work on improvements to the Flora Wastewater Treatment Plant is expected to begin anytime, according to Lex Sorrells, Wastewater Plant superintendent. He warns community residents that they will undergo many disruptions to utility services, in particular water.

50 YEARS AGO

Carroll County ranked second to Howard County in total agriculture income per acre in Indiana as reported in the Indiana Crops and Livestock bulletin released by Purdue for the year of 1957.

The Delphi Journal News Editor, Mrs. Rosemary Finnegan was awarded a scholarship to the Indiana University Writers Conference.

75 YEARS AGO

The first annual Delphi Exposition and Goodwill Jubilee to place around the courthouse with booths, entertainment, prizes and food.

The Delphi Big One store opened in the room formerly owned by the Spencer Store next door to the A & P grocery store. The store offered 13 different kinds of ice cream cones for a nickel.

Frederick Landis, nominee on the Republican ticket for the congressional post from his district filed his election expenses totaling $6.25, $2.75 on telephone calls, $3 on gasoline and $.50 on postage.

100 YEARS AGO

Kathleen McReynolds, 97, of Rock Creek Township passed away. She was believed to be the oldest woman living in Carroll County at the time.

Andrew Carnegie founded 1,800 libraries including the Delphi Public Library and donated $51,596,963 to build them according to his own statement in the Dec. 31, 1908 issue of Collier's Weekly.

The Flora Water Company made improvements to its plant on E. Main Street by adding an emergency reservoir of running water.
