New Pork BBQ Cook-Off planned for county fair

A new activity at the Carroll County 4-H Fair this year will be a Pork BBQ Cook-Off.

Individuals, organizations, and businesses are invited to participate on Thursday, July 16.

Pre-registration is required. The cost to enter is $15 for individuals, $30 for organizations, and $30 for businesses. Entry fee and registration are due by Monday, June 29. Send to: Carroll County 4-H Exhibit Association, P. O. Box 317, Delphi.

Cooking rules

Here are the rules for the Cook-Off:

7 lb. pork loin will be provided by IPC. The loin can be picked up at the 4-H building on Wednesday evening (July 15) between 7 and 8 p.m.

Cooks will provide their own grills and marinades.

Grills can be set-up on the west side of the picnic area in the park between 9 and 10:30 a.m. on July 16.

NOTE: Businesses that are currently grilling on the fairgrounds can use their equipment in their booth. However, they must follow the cooking times outlined below.

Grilling can begin at 1 p.m. and must be done by 5:30 p.m. for tasting.

Cooks are to follow safe food handling techniques.

Tasting

Tasting tables will be set up under the pavilion where dinners are served. Each individual/ group/business should plan to decorate their table with a sign.

Exhibit Association will provide plates, toothpicks and donation containers.

Cooks can serve the meat with or without sauce.

Safe food handling techniques must be observed during serving of the food. Cooks are to provide their own items for keeping the meat warm.

Tasting will be from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. or whenever the pork is gone.

Public will vote for their favorite taste by placing money in containers on the various tables. The cooks with the most donations collected at 6:45 p.m. will receive a "People's Choice" award.

Donations will benefit the Carroll County 4-H program.
