American Bikers Aimed Towards Education (ABATE) of Indiana, Inc. will ride through Carroll County this Saturday as part of the third annual Showdown Ride poker run event. Proceeds from the motorcycle ride will help children with juvenile diabetes. One of nine stops for the poker hand will be at Graham's Saloon in Delphi.

ABATE region four director Jan Johns said proceeds from the ride will be donated to ABATE of Indiana's Biker's Care State Charity. ABATE chose Camp John Warvel for children with juvenile diabetes in North Webster as the official site for charity this year. Johns said the money will help provide children who suffer from medical issues with "a camping experience they will remember for the rest of their lives."

Carroll County ABATE representative Jennifer Schrontz helped to get sponsors and donations for the ride. She said she became involved with the group last year when approximately $17,000 was raised for the Indiana Children's Wish Fund.

"That was money that actually benefitted my nephews," Schrontz said.

Her nephews, Jose and Meliano Morales, suffer from duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). They are students in the Carroll Consolidated School Corporation.

"Jose was able to go to Walt Disney World and the youngest boy, Meliano, got a new computer," Schrontz said. "They are the reason we ride—for the stories of kids

like these."

The Showdown Ride begins from and returns to Spyke's Clinton County Harley Davidson at 1665 South County Rd. near Frankfort. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon. There is an entrance fee of $10 per person. The first bike leaves at noon. Spyke's will host two live bands, Uncle Buck's MoJo and The Snap, giveaways, an auction, free food and camping.

Schrontz and several ABATE riders will host a second poker run to specifically benefit the Morales children in July.
