The heavy rains that pounded central Indiana Monday night forced many athletic directors, administrators and coaches back to the drawing board in order to get the boys' baseball Sectional games played in time before the Regionals are scheduled to start on Saturday.

Such was the case at the Class 2A Sectional in Delphi where Carroll was scheduled to play Fountain Central Monday night at 7 p.m.

The Seeger and Clinton Central game started at 5 Monday and played into the bottom-of-the-first inning when the initial lightning strike forced an automatic half-hour suspension of the contest per IHSAA rules.

The downpour soon followed and by 6 it was determined that the field had absorbed too much water to make it playable at any point Monday night.

School officials agreed to reschedule activities until Tuesday, with the championship game now also moved back a day to Wednesday at 6 p.m.

A preliminary plan in the event that weather forces a postponement of Tuesday's games is to start the games earlier Wednesday and still play the championship contest Wednesday night.

The winner of the Delphi Sectional will advance to the Wabash Regional on Saturday, and face the winner from the five-team Sectional 38 at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers that includes Adams Central, Bluffton, South Adams and Woodlan, in addition to the host team. Other Class 2A Wabash Regional competitors will include the Sectional winners from Oak Hill and Wabash.
