Flora continues work on IDEMwastewater project
Bill McCarty's wastewater report for May indicates Flora's plant processed 805,968 gallons, double what it is rated for. The report was reviewed by the Flora Town Council at a meeting Monday night.
McCarty reported that manhole rehabilitation for the wastewater/IDEM project is going well. Thirteen manhole frames and lids have been upgraded. Summer employee Jarod Beaver is helping with the project.
"Hopefully we can get things cleaned up and get off this sewer ban," Ayres said.
The council authorized clerk-treasurer Joretta Tinsman to pursue an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant for construction of a new fire station. The filing deadline is July 10.
Tinsman reported that the estimate for the blue markers to call attention to the location of fire hydrants came in at $6,000, much higher than fire chief Scott Sisson had anticipated. The project will not proceed at this time.
The police department's report for May included 12 arrests/ misdemeanors, five felonies, seven citations, two parking violations, 23 warnings, 109 calls for service, and eight accidents. The department also conducted its annual Bicycle Safety Program at Carroll Elementary School in May.
The council approved a quote from T&M, Flora, in the amount of $715.21 for a wall hanging drinking fountain for the Fireside Building. The quote includes installation.
The plan commission approved five building permits in May: Jim Brewer, sign; Carl E. Brown, shed; Douglas Simpson, storage shed; Alan Brower, pool; and Daniel Bishop, fence.
An energy cost adjustment factor from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency will increase electric rates in the third quarter to $.035690, an increase in the overall tracking factor of $.003382.
The Northwest Indiana Solid Waste District will hold a household hazardous waste and tire collection on July 25 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the 4-H fairgrounds in Flora.
The town office will be closed July 3 in observance of Independence Day.
The next regular meeting will be July 6 at 6 p.m. in the Fireside Building.
Special meeting
At a special meeting of the council held May 20, the Channel 2 Board's recommendation to hire Keith Burge to replace Vickie Wolf as program director was approved.
The council approved TBIRD Design Services Corp.'s request for $25,000 for the next phase in the wastewater/IDEM project, as well as $450 per month for flow metering equipment
The recommendation from the plan commission that zoning of the Carroll County Community YMCA be changed from Residence A to General Business was also approved.
