Volunteers to be honored on National Trails Day
      Saturday is National Trails Day and Volunteer Recognition Day in Delphi. The Wabash & Erie Canal Association and Delphi Historic Trails volunteers involved in the past year's trail building and maintenance, park outdoor exhibit construction, and serving as docents at the Canal Center will gather along with their families for the noon lunch and recognition ceremony.

Chorus celebrates 75th anniversary at Purdue conference
      A Hoosier musical tradition will celebrate its 75th anniversary at Purdue University's 2009 Home and Family Conference. A special anniversary performance by the Melody Makers of Indiana highlights the June 10-12 conference, which will take place on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.

City building roof fix not yet determined
      The new roof installed in 2007 on the Delphi city building over the street and fire departments has been leaking since early in 2008. The contractor was, and is, not willing to guarantee the work, although the roof material manufacturer is willing to replace the material at no cost. The no cost roof comes with no guarantee.

Fish without a license in Indiana on June 6-7
      Indiana residents can enjoy a weekend of fishing without purchasing a license. This year, the event will be June 6-7. To help kids and adults celebrate Free Fishing Weekend, recreation areas located across Indiana are planning fun fishing derbies, casting clinics, and fish cleaning and cooking classes.

New store has furniture and more
      Jim Ferguson did painting jobs for 31 years. Now, he says he's doing something he really enjoys. He and Cheryl Leonard have opened a new store in downtown Flora called CJ's. Collectors themselves, they offer things they like - furniture, antiques, and collectibles.

Camden's Youth Day features parade
      Camden's annual Youth Day Parade will be Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. sharp. The grand marshal will be Jennifer Wallace, a youth league participant and former ball player. Boosters of the year to be recognized are Brim Concrete, Q-Graphics, and Fite's Mobility.

31st Hog Jog set for June 20
      Registration is under way for the 31st annual Flora Hog Jog. The event, sponsored by Flora Lions Club, will be held June 20 at Flora Community Park. The 10K run is a certified course and will start at 8:15 a.m. The two-mile run and walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. A 400-meter fun run for children ages two to seven will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Lifetime Presidential Award goes to local volunteer
      Former U.S. President George W. Bush formed the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation in 2003. The council was established to recognize the important contributions Americans of all ages are making within their communities through service and civic engagement.

IFB District 3 summer fun night planned
      Members of Indiana Farm Bureau District 3 and their families are invited to a summer fun night June 15 on the Madam Carroll on Lake Freeman in Monticello. Entertainment for the evening will be country singer and American Idol contestant D.J. Miller. The meal will be catered by Parrett's of Flora.

Flora continues work on IDEMwastewater project
      Bill McCarty's wastewater report for May indicates Flora's plant processed 805,968 gallons, double what it is rated for. The report was reviewed by the Flora Town Council at a meeting Monday night. McCarty reported that manhole rehabilitation for the wastewater/IDEM project is going well. Thirteen manhole frames and lids have been upgraded.
