Joel Redmon, 8-year-old Carroll Elementary second grader, surprised everyone last week when he walked down the street with a 14-inch largemouth bass which he caught in a creek which runs through Flora. Since grandpa was in the hospital, Mom and Dad, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Redmon, had to freeze it so he could "show" it later. He also has arrangements to catch any others, if there are any there.

Last Wednesday was the 36th anniversary of the birth of the first child born in Flora, Mrs. Arthur Blue being the person so distinguished. She was the daughter of James Butcher and wife, who were the first to build a home in the town. She first saw the light of day in what was until recently the sample room at the Commercial hotel, and which was torn down a year or two ago. The town had just been platted and Mr. Butcher built a shack and boarded a gang of men which were building the railroad. He afterwards followed his trade as carpenter and built many of the older houses now standing in town. He moved to Kokomo several years ago, but the daughter, Della, has lived in and near Flora constantly. She perhaps knows as much about the growth and past history of the town as any one living.
