George wins conference championship in high jump
The DCHS track and field teams competed in the Hoosier Conference championships last weekend. The girls finished fifth while the boys finished sixth.
Senior Olivia George won the conference championship in the high jump with a career best effort of 5-feet 2-inches.
The boys' 3200 meter relay team of J.D. Huffer, Ryan Everett, Kevin Kauffman, and Kris Bender and the girls' 400-meter relay team of George, Carrington Wallace, Taylor Saul, and Chelsey Marcotte both finished second. Placing third were Matt Dent in the shot put, Jordan Wagner in the high jump, and Wilcox in the 400-meter dash and long jump.
Grace Currie, Zack Condon, Beniot Goffard, Allee Flora and Nathan Dubes all had career best efforts.
Team scores were: Boys - West Lafayette 148, Benton Central 99, Rensselaer, 73, Twin lakes 66, Tipton 57, Delphi 43, Sheridan 10. Girls - West Lafayette 153, Benton Central 140, Tipton 69, Twin Lakes 50, Delphi 36, Rensselaer 29, Sheridan 19.
Earlier last week, the boys and girls both lost to Benton Central. First place finishers for the Oracles were George in the high jump, the girls' 400-meter relay team of George, Wallace, T. Saul, and Marcotte, Dent in the shot put, A.J. Erskin in the 110 high hurdles, Ryan Everett in the 300 hurdles, and the boys' 1600-relay team of Wagner, Andrew Flora, Huffer, and Wilcox.
This week the track teams will compete at Lafayette Jefferson in the sectional championships. The girls competed Tuesday and the boys will compete on Thursday. The top four finishers in each event will advance to the regional the following week.
