Emmie D. Benefiel

Services for Emmie D. Benefiel, 88, of Vernon, Ala., formerly of Flora, were held April 18 in Vernon. Burial followed in Furnace Hill Cemetery.

She passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Care Center of Vernon.

Born March 25, 1921, in Lamar County, Ala., she was the daughter of Hozie Sylvester and Martha Susie Hankins Pennington. She was married in Alabama to Raymond "Roscoe" Benefiel, who preceded her in death in 1962.

She moved to Alabama two years ago after residing in Flora for over 50 years.

Mrs. Benefiel was retired from Briggs Plumbing in Flora.

She was a member of Valley View Baptist Church in Flora and attended Lebanon United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and was an avid Alabama fan.

Surviving are three sons, Billy Benefiel of Vernon, Ala., Charles Benefiel of Flora and James Benefiel (wife: Deena) of Bringhurst; a daughter, Janice Kiel of Lafayette; a brother, Hubert Pennington (wife: Willie Quinn) of Vernon, Ala.; 15 grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two daughters, Emily Dean Pitts and Shirley Ann Faber; eight brothers; and two sisters.
