The City of Delphi swore in the first female police officer, Summer L. Stingley, 21, who began her police training with the department May 2.
The Delphi Fine Arts Council and the Delphi chapter of Psi Iota Xi sorority hosted a reception for the Delphi Art Show purchase award sponsors and donors. The new feature of the art show brought in more than $3,000.
The Delphi Community Middle School seventh and eighth grade bands hosted students from Carroll and Rossville middle schools to form a 172-member band. The festival band performed a concert in the Delphi Community High School gymnasium.
The Delphi Oracle boys' and girls' track team hosted the 66th annual Norm Ebrite Memorial Relays at the Delphi Community High School track.

Alan Jackson reported at last night's Carroll School Board meeting that 70 of the 1,000 balloons released when the cornerstone of the new elementary building was layed on May 1 have been returned.
He said they have come from as far away as Maryland and Delaware with a large number from the Columbus, Ohio area. Comments from those finding the balloons with accompanying messages have been a daily topic of conversation for students, according to Jackson.
Lee Ann Nelson and Greg Dinger were crowned queen and king of he Carroll Junior- Senior High School prom. Jon Zink and Kathy Powlen were crowned king and queen at Delphi Community High School's prom.
Carroll Junior-Senior High School will graduate 87 seniors at the 23rd annual Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises Sunday. Delphi Community High School will graduate 123 on the same day.
50 YEARS AGO
The senior class of the Flora high school will present Agatha Christie's "The Mouse Trap", Friday in the high school auditorium.
The cast for the drama: Carol Ryan, Terry Guyer, Cullan Eikenberry, Louanne Lynch, Lowell Craft, Connie Briggs, Wayne Esserman, Larry Hausenfluck and Carl Oyler.
Don Driggs is student director; Hub Campbell, stage manager; Maurice Robeson, lighting and properties; Ron Myers, sound effect; Gary Skiles and Joe Myers, set; Mike Sines, set decorations.
75 YEARS AGO
A new grocery store, "Delphi Market" opened for business on May 3, 1934 in the Grimm building beside the Arc Theatre. The store handled all kinds of groceries and meats.
At the April meeting the Board of Education made a resolution urging all children entering school next fall be immunized in the spring.
The exhibits of the Delphi school received a special mention for neatness, the quality of the work and artistic appearance in writing, reading, spelling, maps, English and for the sand pile built to represent a May Day scene.
100 YEARS AGO
Mr. C. E. McCain officially resigned his position from the sheriff's office. When the present sheriff U. W. Blue took charge of the office, he was in need of an experienced man to put himself and his permanent deputy C. C. Mc- Creary onto the ropes. Mc- Cain consented to do so and remained through the first term of court. McCain served as deputy under sheriff Roach for two years and three months and under Sheriff W. L. Pullen for four years.
