Deadline nears for Little Miss/Mister Contest
      Registration deadline for the 31st Annual Little Miss and the 14th Annual Little Mister Contest will be June 1. The contest will be held July 12 at 7 p.m. in the show arena at the Carroll County 4- H Fairgrounds in Flora. To be eligible to compete, contestants must be at least five years of age and cannot have reached his/her eighth birthday before Aug. 5, 2009.

Hickory Grove hosts free movie night
      Free movie night at the Hickory Grove Church, located seven miles north of Delphi on CR 700W., will be May 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The title of the movie is "Flywheel" from the producers of "Fireproof." The movie is about a used car salesman who wants to sell cars in the worst way and that is exactly how he does business.

      In October 2008, Carrie Herwick found out that her job as sales manager for Troyer Products, an RV products supplier in Bristol, would be eliminated at the end of the year. The single mother of two teenagers had been a teacher in the early 1990s and figured returning to the classroom would be her best bet. But she had a few tasks to do first.

      Attention all shutterbugs! The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) recently announced the 2009 Indiana State Department of Agriculture Photo Contest. Contest winners will have a winning photograph framed and featured in the Indiana State Department of Agriculture Photo Gallery exhibit at a venue to be announced in the fall of 2009.

Carroll County residents 'arrested' to benefit MDA
      Several Carroll County residents volunteered last Thursday to go behind bars in an effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Community members were encouraged to participate by helping their fellow neighbors get out of jail.

      The Delphi Community School Corporation was unable to hold its scheduled monthly business meeting of the Board of School Trustees Monday night because of a lack of a quorum.

IRS reminds small tax-exempt organizations to file e-postcards
      The Internal Revenue Service reminds small taxexempt organizations to file their annual electronic informational return with the IRS by the May 15 deadline. This is the second year of the new requirement for taxexempt organizations whose gross annual receipts are normally $25,000 or less to file Form 990-N also known as e-Postcards.

Deer hunt outfitter enjoys Carroll County venture
      Carroll County is known for many things but probably not as a destination to hunt trophy deer. However that may have changed due to one entrepreneur. Mark Liebner opened Camp Kay Outfitters last year to sell deer hunts on 13,000 acres of leased land in Carroll, Cass, and White counties.
