Saturday will be busy sports day in Delphi

It should not be hard to find something to do on Saturday as the City of Delphi will be bustling with activity with several athletic teams hosting home events.

Delphi Youth Baseball organization's "Opening Day" will be on Saturday with the traditional parade through downtown to Paul Goyer Field.

League officials will then commence with the opening day ceremonies including the recognition of last season's 12- and-under Town and Country state runner-up team, top fundraiser sales awards before the first-pitch is thrown at 11 a.m., with five games scheduled to follow.

This season marks the 54th year for the Delphi Youth Baseball League, which officially was organized in 1956.

Delphi Youth Softball League will also celebrate its "Opening Day," joining the baseball parade in the morning, and then playing games at Riley Park.

On the high school scene, Delphi boy's varsity baseball team will host its traditional "Oracle Classic" at the high school field starting at 9 a.m.

The four-team tournament will also feature teams from Eastern, Seeger, Clinton Central with a four-game format extending into the afternoon.

Class 2A #7-ranked Delphi girls varsity softball team will host Hoosier Conference rival Twin Lakes for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. at the high school softball field.

Additionally, the Delphi track team will host the annual "Ebrite Relays," featuring 14 area teams at Berto Field, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Finally, the Delphi girl's tennis team will be hosting the JV Invitational tournament at the high school tennis courts beginning at 9 a.m.
