By Jennifer Archibald Staff writer

Personnel, purchases, and coming events were on the agenda at the April 21 Carroll School Board meeting.

Resignations were accepted from Melinda Allbaugh, nurse supervisor; Patsy Bosley, cheerleading sponsor; and Christina Miller, food service employee. Carroll still has a remaining school nurse, Jennifer Wellbaum.

Kim Worl was hired as Primetime instructional assistant, taking the place of Shana Bordner, who resigned at the last board meeting.

The following students were hired for summer work: Adam Spesard, Carson Spesard, Riley Eller, and Hope Hayden, all at $7 an hour, and lifeguards Emily Schneckloth and Brock Richardson, each at $7.50 an hour.

The board approved the purchase of two servers, drives, software, and hardware for the junior-senior high school at a total cost of $18,533.

A quote from Wiers for bus repair was accepted, totaling $6,884.

Athletic Director Shaun Rose announced that on May 15 and 16 Carroll will host its first conference softball tournament, to be held at the junior senior high school and at the park.

CJSHS principal Charles Huckstep announced other coming events: Sports physicals, May 1; prom, May 2; junior high awards night, May 11; high school awards, May 18 (a change of date); and graduation, May 23.

One of the conference and field trip requests was from Melissa Keown to take students to Kentucky Kingdom for the after-prom on May 3. It was approved, and the students will go by bus and abide by the same rules as for other school-sponsored field trips. Keown said town marshal Paul Redmon will help administer Breathalyzer tests prior to students boarding the bus.

The following facility requests were approved: Special Olympics, track and field practice at the high school; Psi Iota Xi (two requests), scrabble tournament at the elementary school and making cookie dough at the high school.

Superintendent John Sayers said two options for a policy regarding transfer students are under review. The public will have a chance for input before the policy is adopted.

Sayers also reported that work has begun on asbestos removal in tunnels under the high school.

He also said he understands that some stimulus money will be coming to the schools.

The board changed its next meeting to April 29 at 8 p.m. in the Administration Building. This is the same day that bids on the high school HVAC project will be opened.
