April showers continue to play havoc on the Class 2A #15-ranked Delphi baseball team's schedule so far in the young season.

The Oracles' (5-2) home game against Carroll Monday night was cancelled due to weather, as was last Monday's contest at Frankfort.

In between while on the field, Delphi split a pair of road games last week, easily defeating Clinton Prairie 15- 4 in six innings on Friday night after losing a 10-9 heartbreaker Thursday night at Class 1A's top-ranked Frontier.

At Clinton Prairie

The Oracles bounced back nicely from the loss at Frontier the night before and wasted no time taking control of the game against the Gophers (1-4).

Delphi scored four runs in the top-of-the-2nd inning, led by a 2-run single to left field by Andrew Flora, RBI singles from Shane Hyman and Ralph Overman, all after a lead-off single from Dustin Salyer, who then stole two bases to set the table for the rally.

After two more runs in the 3rd inning highlighted by an A.J. Beckett deep sacrifice fly to center gave the Oracles a 6-2 lead, Delphi tacked on four more in the 4th with another RBI single from Hyman after a single from Tanner Cripe and a lead-off single from Austin Hawn.

In front comfortably at 10- 3, the next challenge was to try to out an early end to the game by the 10-run rule.

Hawn led-off the 5th with a double and pinch-runner Karson Bender scored on Neil Snoeberger's fielder's choice to extend the lead to 11-3, before another four-run inning in the 6th put the game out of reach.

Following a Beckett double, Overman and Flora came through with RBI singles in the inning, which also included hits from Bender and an RBI on a fielder's choice from Cripe.

Tyler Willis earned his second victory on the mound, striking out four in three innings, before being relieved by Jason Stewart and Beckett, making his first appearance of the season on the mound to close it out.

Flora, Hyman, Overman and Hawn each had two hits to lead the season-high 12 hit performance, while Flora had three RBI's, and Hyman and Overman had two RBI's apiece.

At Frontier

Delphi played extremely well for about 3 1/2 innings, leading 8-2 before a brutal bottom of the 4th when Frontier (10-0) sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring eight times on six hits and three walks. That turned the momentum on what had been a lop-sided contest and the Falcons took a 10-8 lead that was just enough for the win.

The Oracles again got on the board early with two runs in the top of the 1st after a lead-off single from Flora, a hit from Snoeberger and a sacrifice fly from Salyer.

Flora then hit a two-run home run to left-center to highlight a three run 2nd that included a hit from Snoeberger and an RBI single from Salyer to extend the lead to 5-0.

Delphi went up 8-2 with three more runs in the 3rd, led by a single from Overman and an RBI single from Flora.

But after the miserable 4th, the Oracles would score only once more in the 6th inning to narrow the margin to 10-9 on an RBI single by Hyman after singles from Salyer and Beckett.

Flora led the 11-hit attack with three hits and three RBIs, while Salyer had two hits and two RBIs and Snoeberger added a pair of hits.

Cripe held the Falcons scoreless from the mound over the final 2 innings to keep it close, but Frontier's Travis Demerly came on to close it out, striking out four of the five Oracle batters he faced.

Weather permitting, Delphi was scheduled to host Peru Tuesday night (too late for print) and Sheridan on Wednesday at 5 p.m., before traveling to Frankfort for a tentatively-scheduled makeup game on Monday at 5 p.m., then to Twin Lakes on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
