Join the Academy of American Poets for Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 30 at the Flora Library. The idea is simple: select a poem, carry it with you (poem in pocket) and pass it along to family, friends, and coworkers throughout the day. Last year, people across the country unfolded poems and read them in parks, libraries, schools, and workplaces.
The library will have poems available to put in your pocket if you don't have your own. Poetry books will also be available to choose your own favorite. Encourage your children to carry their own poetry. Poem in Your Pocket Day is a celebration of National Poetry Month.
The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest is going on now at the library. The "hunt" is for teens and tweens who enjoy reading and a challenge! Read one of the book selections, answer a trivia quiz (scavenger hunt), and turn it in to the library. "Hunters" who get eight out of 10 answers correct will be entered into a monthly contest. The more "hunts" the "hunters" do, the higher the chance of winning! Come to the library to learn all the details.
The theme for the next storytime is "Rainbows." Preschool storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.
Listen to Carroll Elementary's fourth grade students recite James Whitcomb Riley poems in celebration of National Poetry Month.
