Glass transoms being restored for Opera House
      Work is proceeding on the restoration of four glass tile transoms for the Opera House building on the courthouse square in downtown Delphi. Delphi Preservation Society owns the landmark structure built in 1864 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Emergency funds available for Carroll County
      According to Area IV Agency, Carroll County has been awarded $10,206 in federal funds for agencies to assist families and individuals needing emergency food and shelter.

County dust control signup deadline is May 1
      The Carroll County Highway Department is providing dust control for those living on a gravel road. Anyone wanting the calcium chloride application for 300 feet in front of their house must register with the Highway Department by calling (574) 967-4244. Even hose who have had dust control applied in the past must register this year by May 1.

ISP releases March statistics
      The Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post has released statistics for March. Troopers issued 1,419 traffic citations and wrote 1,272 traffic warnings. Troopers also arrested 29 drunk drivers and made 160 criminal arrests.

      It was estimated that hundreds of people attended last Wednesday's two Tea Parties on the John T. Myers Bridge in Lafayette. Party organizers said the event was designed to bring likeminded people together to spur them to action.

Flower and Garden Fair is Saturday
      The Carroll County Garden Club is hosting its 13th annual Carroll County Flower and Garden Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Merchants' Building at the Community Park in Flora. Admission is free. Vegetable, herb, and flowering plants, along with ornamental grasses, organic fertilizers and garden art will be featured.

Public hearing is set
      The Carroll County Area Plan Commission will hold a public hearing for the proposed Hoosier Heartland Highway Overlay District on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Commissioner's Room of the county courthouse, Delphi. Copies of the document are available online at www.carrollcountyzoning. wordpress.com or in the Area Plan Commission office.

Participation, new members sought by Burlington Community Club
      Shelly Wiles reported at last week's meeting of the Burlington Town Council that the Community Club has three to four positions on its board that need to be filled. She explained that there are five or six people who are trying to do everything and they are being spread too thin.

Sailing Club announces classes
      The Lafayette Sailing Club is offering sailing school for new and old sailors on May 4 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. at the Tippecanoe Library in downtown Lafayette. The classroom session will be held in meeting room A or B. Those attending should park at the west end of the building.

      Barnyard Boot Camp, a free farm safety day, is planned for children ages 8- 12 on May 16 by The ADM Grain Company-Logansport, chapter of Farm Safety 4 Just Kids, to address important safety issues. This event is free to all children and will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Delphi again earns 'Tree City' designation
      The City of Delphi has again been named a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. It is the third year Delphi has received this national recognition. The program is sponsored by the foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
