Spring and fall at the Lavys will be quieter now that their orchard is gone. Trees had to be pruned in the spring, and in the fall up to 1,500 bushels of apples had to be picked. The front porch of their home was their store, and their barn was the storage area. In the spring time, fragrance of apple blossoms filled the air. The Lavys produced apples for are residents for 40 years, but changing times, age and health were factors in their decision to retire from the apple business.
In March they cut down the orchard, keeping 10 trees for family use.
Last Friday, an unusual semi-truck was diverted through downtown Delphi. The semi was taken off I-65 at the SR 18 exit because of construction work being done on the interstate.

What came near being a sad chapter in the history of the old mill dam at Bishop's mill, occurred Wednesday. Geo. Wattenberger and wife and a young man by the of Harmon were fishing on the east side of the dam and in attempting to cross to their home, one of the flat boats which they were pushing with a pole, came very nearly going to a watery grave. The recent heavy rains had so swollen the stream which at this place is very swift, that Mr. Wattenberger lost control of the craft and it was pitched and tossed by the raging waters. It was finally overturned in a tree top which had fallen in the stream about one- half mile below. The three people were left in the water that was too deep to wade and none of the party could swim and they kept their heads above water only by grasping the boughs of the tree. Finally Mr. Wattenberger succeeded in reaching shore and notified Chas. Adams, the miller and John Julius, who then plunged in the water and pulled them ashore after having been in the cold water for about one and onehalf hours.
