Easter Sunrise Service
The annual Easter Sunrise Service, sponsored by the Flora Area Ministerial Association, will feature the cantata, "The Resurrection and The Life." The Sunrise Choir is made up of area church choir members who have assembled together for more than 30 years.
The service will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Flora United Methodist Church, 107 E. Main Street.
"The Resurrection and The Life," created by Deborah Craig-Claar and Robert Sterling, with arrangements and orchestration by Robert Sterling, is described by its publisher as: "A collection of dramatic musical scenes from the life of Christ." The cantata celebrates and highlights through song, scripture, and narration: the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist, the gathering of children with Jesus, the healing of Jairus' daughter, Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the Passover in the Upper Room, the arrest in the garden, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection.
"The Resurrection and Life" borrows from the rich history of Christian music with contemporary pieces, "In Remembrance," "Shout to the Lord," "In Your Name," "You are My All in All," along with majestic arrangements of more traditional hymns of praise, "The Road of Sorrows," "Thy Will, Not My Will" and "The Wondrous Cross." The cantata and choir are directed by David Kitchell.
The service will be followed by a breakfast at 7:30 in the church's fellowship hall. An offering will be received to carry out united ministry through the Flora Area Ministerial Association. The community is invited to attend.
