What's up with trash pick up?

Sometimes the City of Delphi makes no sense to me...

Let's start with the $10 increase on our water bill to pay for trash pick up. If we are paying this, then why should we still have to buy additional trash bag stickers for 50 cents each? (I hate that they rip in half when you try to peel them off). How did they approve this without letting everyone know this increase was coming? Why didn't we receive a letter along with our water bill at least once? That would make sense.

Now let's talk about spring clean up. I remember when there were two pick ups a year, then later it was one, I haven't received any information this year on it, probably because nobody has got a calendar from the city.

The other day I took all of my junk to the transfer station (county dump). I considered my stuff trash, but others might find it useful. However, driving around and picking up other people's discarded stuff to keep for yourself is a good way of recycling.

On a recent Saturday I went to the dump. It was 11:45 a.m. which happens to be closing time at the only place around here that will take your junk and trash (for a fee of course). I was told I was lucky because the transfer station operator closed the gate behind me. While I waited my turn in line he told three other drivers of trash loaded trucks that they were closed and would not be open until Monday. This is when most people work. What are we supposed to do?

We just have to accept all of this... but hey, at least our taxes didn't go up. Yeah!

Kevin Wright Delphi (for now)
