What we expect from an elected official - protection

2009-04-08 / Opinions & Letters

Kudos to Carroll County Surveyor Wayne Chapman! Chapman did what we wish all of our local (state and national) leaders would do while performing his with the county. Chapman looked ahead at two different projects and saw what might become a problem for the county and its taxpayers. He spoke to protect both.

Chapman understands how drains work in the county. During drainage board meetings, he many times talks about swill and drain-cuts and flow and all sorts of things that most of us do not understand.

But he does. He understands what can cause a problem in a drain. And he understands what a "problem" in a drain can mean to those who pay to have the drain maintained.

Chapman was forthcoming with his concerns at the drainage board meeting Monday morning. He informed the board of the potential issues with both projects so they would be aware if action is needed. He informed the public as well. That's what we like all our elected leaders to do.

Chapman deserves our gratitude for doing something with honesty and forthrightness - his job.
