Mary L. Smothers
Mary L. McKay Smothers, 77, of Delphi, died at 4:07 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Born Oct. 8, 1931, in Delphi, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Adsit. Her marriage was on July 16, 1959, in Delphi, to Lester Smothers, Jr., who preceded her in death on July 2, 1994.
Mrs. Smothers attended the former Carrollton High School near Burlington.
A homemaker, she worked for the former Little's Dry Cleaners in Delphi for 20 years.
Mrs. Smothers attended the Delphi Wesleyan Church for many years, where she taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, collecting dolls, garage sales and raising houseplants to sell.
Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Nattinger (husband: Bruce) of Delphi, Rita Butcher (husband: Jack) of Arcadia and Rose Lewis (husband: Steve) of Elwood; two sons, Bill Smothers (wife: Andrea) of Delphi and Doug Grant of Oahu, Hawaii; a brother, Herb McKay (wife: Pat) of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was an infant son, Terry; a son, Robert; a brother; and a sister.
Services were held Tuesday at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. The Rev. John Wagner officiated. Burial followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Delphi.
