Georganna Julius
Georganna "Georgie" Julius, 91, of Flora, died at 9:47 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Clarian Arnett Hospital, Lafayette.
Born July 19, 1917, in Lizton, she was the daughter of George and Eugenia Ayers Huber. Her marriage was on May 16, 1942, in Lizton, to Robert C. Julius, who preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1982.
Mrs. Julius was a teacher at the Flora School for 32 years. She taught home economics and science at the high school before starting her family. When she returned to teaching, she taught fifth grade at the elementary school for 23 years, retiring in 1982.
She was a graduate of Lizton High School and obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Mortar Board.
An area resident since 1939, she was a member of the Flora United Methodist Church. She was also a member and past president of Beta Alpha Chapter of Psi Iota Xi, a past worthy matron of Eastern Star, and a member of Tri Kappa sorority and Flora Community Club.
Last November, Mrs. Julius served as the marshal for Flora's annual Christmas Parade.
She enjoyed reading and knitting hats, scarves and mittens that she gave away to family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Jones (husband: Phil) of Flora; a son, Robert H. Julius of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Tracy Gaylor of Kokomo; a grandson, Adam Yeakley (wife: Susan) of Flora; four great-grandchildren, Trever Yeakley, Grant Gaylor, Evan Gaylor and Alexis Yeakley, and a fifth great-grandchild to be born in a few weeks.
Services were held Monday at Baker Funeral Home, Flora. Pastor Rex Charles and Pastor Larry DeVos officiated. Burial followed at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
