National Library Week (April 12- 18) is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide - and the perfect time for our community to come together at the library. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
Everyday, libraries help transform their communities. At the Flora Library, people of all backgrounds can come together for community meetings, programs, research with the assistance of a trained professional, find homework help, use the free Internet access, even bring in your own laptop (or borrow ours) for free wireless Internet.
Come to the Flora Library during Library Week and participate in the Folk Art Class or discover our book club which will discuss Richard Russo's "Bridge of Sighs" in the Flora Senior Center on April 15 at 10 a.m. Bring your preschoolers to storytime and call Dial-a- Story to listen to Carroll Elementary fourth graders reciting James Whitcomb Riley poems.
The celebration of Poetry Month continues on Dial-a- Story. Amber Montgomery can be heard reciting "The Toy Penny Dog" through Friday. The next featured student will be Jason Wright performing "Three Jolly Hunters." Call Dial-a-Story anytime at 967- 3814.
The theme for the next storytime is "Library Week," and we're celebrating! Stories, fingerplays and more will be the rule of the day. Preschool storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.
