Harry Irvin Fry, 88, of Camden, went to be with his Lord at 5:50 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Veteran Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Ill.

Born Oct. 9, 1920, in Somerset, Wis., he was the son of John and Zadie Frybarger Fry. His marriage was on Dec. 10, 1988, in Logansport, to Grace M. Burkett Bell, who survives.

A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941. He was a cook, baker and ship's chaplain, serving on various ships in the Pacific, retiring from the military in 1972.

He owned bait shops in Logansport and Buffalo.

Mr. Fry was a member of the Burrows Presbyterian Church, American Legion, American Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a Life Member of American Veterans of World War II.

He was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Korean, United Nations and National Defense Service medals. Following naval service, he volunteered in church and senior citizen programs.

Mr. Fry loved family events, flowers, fishing and being called "Grandpa." He took great pride in his marriage to "Gracie" and in displaying the American flag.

Also surviving are two sons, Larry Bell (wife: Eva) of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Dennie Lou Fry of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Betty Gauze (husband: James) of Champaign, Ill., and Babs Hajdusiewicz (husband: Jerry) of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Lois Mavis of Hastings, Minn., Melva Jane Proechel (husband: Darrell) of Mesa, Ariz., May Mudder (husband: John) of Watertown, S.D., and Cleo Endres (husband: Andy) of Babbitt, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, five brothers, one sister, and two grandsons.

Services were held March 31 at the Burrows Presbyterian Church. Pastor Nick Clark officiated. Burial followed at the Woodville Cemetery near Burrows with military graveside rites by the Camden and Delphi American Legions and Delphi VFW.

Memorials may be made to the Burrows Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Arrangements were handled by Cree Funeral Home, Camden.
