 Karl K. Austin, 83, of Burlington, died around noon on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his home.

Born Feb. 16, 1926, in Bourbon, he was the son of Frank and Joy Kinzie Austin. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1944.

A World War II veteran, from 1943 to 1945 he served in the Army Air Corp in the 3502 AAF Base Unit.

Mr. Austin had been a self-employed carpenter for many years

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Kokomo Country Club.

He had attained the rank of Life Master bridge player. He also loved to fish and play golf.

Surviving are four children, Norman Austin (wife: Becky) of West Chester, Ohio, Julie Austin of Palm Springs, Calif., Miles Austin of Indianapolis, and Kinzie Austin (wife: Jessica) of Russiaville; two sisters, Joan Coil of Kokomo and Kathleen Hignite of Satellite Beach, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Robert Eller of Burlington; four grandchildren, Joshua Austin, Jacob Austin, Katherine Austin, and Veronica Austin; his former wife and the mother of his children, Rosemary (Bowman) Dimitt of Banning, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Imogene Zartman Austin; and two sisters, F. Nadine Eller and Marsha Austin.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. April 4 at Stout & Son Funeral Home Neptune Chapel, Burlington. Steve Cole will officiate. Military rites will follow the service. Private burial will be held at Burlington Cemetery. Calling hours will be April 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Neptune Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
