      Historical Society Carroll County Historical Society Board of Directors and other invited boards met recently with the Executive Director of the Indiana Historical Society, Jeffery Harris. He presented a one-day seminar on setting up historical boards and making them work.

      NICHES Land Trust will meet tonight, April 1, at 7 p.m. at the Tippecanoe County Public Library, 627 South Street in Lafayette, Meeting Room B, for a photographic tour of the land and animals that NICHES protects on its preserves. Canal boat dock
      Canal volunteers working on their M-W-F schedule are moving outdoors now to take advantage of milder weather. The decking of the passenger dock is being done while the water level in the canal is down.

Results given from Lafayette ISP saturation patrol
      Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post conducted a saturation patrol on March 27 throughout the district. The district includes the counties of Carroll, Clinton, Montgomery, Fountain, Warren, Benton, White and Tippecanoe. There were 28 troopers, detectives, and command personnel who participated in the patrol that went from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday.

      The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Burlington on Tuesday at the Community Park Building from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcomed. Community Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the park. Park Board will meet tonight, Wed., April 1, at 7:30 p.m.

      First Baptist Youth Community Spring Clean-Up work day will be held April 4 and if needed on April 11. Youth and volunteers are to meet at the church at 9 a.m. Those participating are asked to bring rakes, wheelbarrows, tarps, and gloves.

Special tax break available for new vehicle purchases this year
      The Internal Revenue Service has announced that taxpayers who buy a new passenger vehicle this year may be entitled to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes paid on the purchase on their 2009 tax returns next year.

Scouting for Food drive
      Rossville's Pack 337 and Troop 337 combined their efforts over the past two weekends in March to contribute to Scouting's annual Scouting for Food drive. The annual event is held in order to assist local food pantries and other needy organizations in replenishing their food supplies.

      Registration is underway for the Indiana Department of Natural Resource's 2009 Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop. BOW offers women a relaxed, non-competitive environment conducive for learning outdoor skills in a workshop that is designed just for women.

      It's the time of year when thousands of animals are born in the wild. With the spread of suburban areas into animals' natural habitats, many people find baby wild animals that appear to be alone. Thinking the animals are orphaned, hurt, abandoned or lost, well-meaning individuals sometimes "rescue" them.

      Rockfield HS Alumni Rockfield High School Alumni will hold their annual meeting on Saturday, April 25, at noon at the Rockfield Community Center, located where the school once stood. The Class of 1949 will be observing its 60th anniversary. This is the last class to graduate from Rossville High School.

      Delphi Public Friends of Delphi Public Library will host a Spring Book Sale April 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the program room. A large selection of fiction, non-fiction, hardback, paperbacks, video tapes, and children books will be on sale. A Friends preview sale, for members only, will be April 3 at 3 p.m. Memberships will be accepted at the preview.

Deployed to Iraq
      Shawn D. Kelly, formerly of Cutler, will be deployed to Iraq for his second tour. He has been in the Marines since October 2005. His first tour to Iraq was in 2007. Upon his return from Iraq, his four-year stint will be over. He, his wife, and daughter will reside in Bringhurst.
