Photo provided Although both teams were confident, the Delphi Middle School "Book Brawlers" defeated the Carroll Junior High "Bookies" in the annual Bacon Bits Bowl, the junior edition of Battle of the Books, at Carroll on March 16.
Since the inception of the contest four years ago, Carroll has always reigned supreme, but they met their match when they were behind 16- 10 after the first 20 questions.
The revenge continued with Delphi scoring 18 to Carroll's 13 in the second round of 20, and 17 to 16 in the third round.
In the final round of 20 questions, Carroll finally outscored the Book Brawlers, but only by one point, and the defeat was complete: Final score: Delphi 68, Carroll 55.
So now the three blue C's will have a black D added to the Bacon Bits skillet.
"The boys of The Bookies will be around next year as eighth graders, so they may want to give it another shot!" said Becky Lain, Carroll coordinator.
But then, so will the competitors from Delphi, and the race to be crowned the best readers in the county will resume!
