EDUCATION NEWS

Begley Begley PETER WOODRUFF is one of 95 Hamilton College (Clinton, N.Y.) students who are participating in Alternative Spring Break. Participants are doing volunteer work in six locations throughout the South during Hamilton's spring break from March 14-29.

Alternative Spring Break is intended to increase students' awareness and concern of social issues while generating a life-long interest in community service. This year Hamilton ASB is sending students to Washington D.C., North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi.

Woodruff, a senior majoring in environmental studies, is the son of Anthony and Grace Woodruff of Cutler.

KAITLIN BEGLEY, 15, daughter of John and Jenifer Begley of Delphi, served as a house page March 13 during the 2009 session of the Indiana General Assembly for Rep. Rich Mc- Clain. Pages learn how a bill becomes a law as they watch legislators debate issues on the house floor on session days. During committee days, students witness where a bill receives first consideration and watch hearings with public input.
