Lessons from the Heart
Turn on any radio or television and someone will be there to tell you how bad the economy is. Medical costs are up and interest is down. Unemployment is up and retirement funds are down. And things seem to be getting worse.
In Matthew 24 Jesus was talking to His disciples about how bad things would get just before He comes back. In verse 6 He tells them: "You shall hear of wars and rumors of wars." He follows that with amazing words of encouragement: "See that you be not troubled."
In the midst of all this chaos our country seems to be in, Jesus still says to His disciples, "See that you be not troubled." In other words, don't worry, stay calm, relax or be cool.
Are you one of His disciples? If you are you can find peace in the midst of the storm. God's finances are not dependent on Wall Street and neither are His children's. Our finances are dependent upon Him. We don't depend on a paycheck to put food on our tables; we depend upon God to put food on our tables. We can begin to think that we work all of our lives to save a nest egg for retirement. Who knows but what we have worked all of our lives for just such a day as this; a day when people are wondering how they will get by.
We have the answer people need to hear. Psalm 91:1 - "God is our refuge and our strength." Psalm 37:25 - "I have been young and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread." Philippians 4:19 assures us "My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory." Understand He has riches in glory and plenty of them.
So followers of Jesus, why don't we just let Him take care of the necessities of our lives and direct our attention to the things He has for us to do? What does He have for us to do? Point people to Jesus! He came to earth to die for them on the Cross of Calvary so they might have eternal life. It is often in the midst of storms that people look for a miracle. Jesus is just the miracle we all need. He is trustworthy. Why not put your trust in Him today?
