Zinn Kitchens is a well known business in Carroll County and the surrounding area. Thanks to the Better Homes and Gardens issue offering the latest in kitchen and bath ideas, now the whole country has had a chance to view their work.

The cover of the Spring 1999 Kitchen and Bath Ideas features a Zinn kitchen designed by John Bickel, one of four designer-salesmen at the company.

Carroll County Agriculture Hall of Fame has three new members-Leo Bowman, Bill Duff, and Everett Gruber.

The three were named and recognized at the Carroll County Pork Producers annual meeting and banquet.

25 YEARS AGO

Several organizations are working to finalize plans to sponsor the 6th Annual Hog Jog in conjunction with the Carroll County Pork Festival in Flora.

The Comet has sponsored the Hog Jog since it was first organized in 1979. Among the sponsors of the new organization will be the Carroll County Pork Producers.

Lon Bohnstedt and Tom Helvie of Flora are serving as temporary co-chairmen.

Because of a severe winter storm, last week's Lafayette IHSAA Sectional games were postponed.

The last time the Sectional was delayed, Delphi won the championship. That was in 1978 when IHSAA dictated that local officials could set their own times to play, as long as they were done by March 25, because of the "energy crisis."

50 YEARS AGO

People who drove along wooded areas during the warmer days earlier and heard peculiar noises that sounded like mushrooms pushing their way up through the soil, could not hear a thing at the same spots Tuesday, probably because the noise, made by the snowflakes hitting the ground, was so much greater.

Plenty of empty desks are showing up in the Delphi class rooms the past few days. Flu germs are cutting a swath through the area and the students have been hard hit. School attendance sheets showed 234 pupils absent on Wednesday. Some of the mamas and papas haven't been feeling too well, either. The only cheerful prospect about the whole thing is that it can't be too much longer before everyone in the county will have had it and we all can enjoy our immunity!

75 YEARS AGO

Ranking among the stronger teams in the county this season is the Burlington basketball five. Won 12, Lost 9.

Camden won 14, Lost 4. Carrollton won 4, Lost 12. Cutler won 10, Lost 6 Deer Creek won 1, Lost 14. Delphi won 11, Lost 9. Flora won 9, Lost 10.

Rockfield won 10, Lost 6. Officials for the local sectional are Carl Burt and Glenn Farrell.

100 YEARS AGO

Newman Viney of Jefferson township, brother of William Viney a prominent farmer east of Bringhurst, had a narrow escape at Delphi Thursday afternoon as he was leaving town. He was driving north of Washington street, when one wheel came off of his enclosed buggy, frightened the horse and upset the rig with Mr. Viney inside. The horse turned east on Monroe street when it was stopped by John Heck. Mr. Viney then climbed out of his property found himself still sound and the buggy not badly damaged.
