Flora First Christian plans Lenten services

2009-02-25 / Faith

Flora First Christian Church will hold its annual Ash Wednesday service this evening, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.

The traditional service of communion, scripture readings, reflection, and prayer begins the season of Lent as Christians begin their spiritual journey to Easter. Transitional pastor Sam Davenport will deliver a message on "You Want Peace, Behold the Peacemaker."

This year's overall theme of Lenten services at the Flora church is "Behold the Man." Lent is often referred to as a season of self-examination by Christians as they examine who Christ is, what He has done for them, how they follow Him, and what changes are needed in their lives. Each week these pre- Easter sermons will examine the human life experiences of Jesus Christ, which all people face.

Weekly Lenten sermon themes are "Behold the Tempted," March 1; "Behold Forgiveness, March 8; "Behold the Teacher," March 15; "Behold, the Leader," March 22, "Behold the Journey," March 29; "Behold the King - Faces at a Parade," April 5 (Palm Sunday) and "Behold the Living," April 12, Easter.

First Christian Church is located on South Center Street, next to Mann Chevrolet in Flora. For more information, call 574- 967-4246.
