The Lady Cougars arrived at Lewis Cass on Saturday morning in time to watch the first semi-final game, Oak Hill vs. Wabash. They learned that Oak Hill is a very good team, pounding Wabash 66-29. The Cougars then had the task of playing a young and aggressive Fort Wayne Luers team in the second semi-final game. It would be the last high school basketball game for Carroll's four seniors - Lucy Zook, Amber Hughes, Alisha Hedrick and Sarah Griffin.

Fort Wayne used a 30-9 scoring outburst in the first and second periods to erase a 9-3 Carroll lead and go into halftime in command 33-18. The pressure defense by Luers was difficult for the Cougars to handle. Luers was tall and fast and able to get into passing lanes for steals. Luers also made 3-point shots, hitting 10 of 16 for the game, 62.5%. Carroll had no answer for the defensive pressure Luers applied.

The third quarter opened with Jess Yoder hitting backto back 3s to cut into the deficit and give the Cougars some hope. However, it was short lived as Luers nailed 3 three-pointers and put this game away. From here, it was just a matter of what would be the final score. A 67-42 win by Luers does not indicate how hard the Cougars played. The Lady Cougars battled all the way to the end, never giving up. Their season ended with the regulars receiving a well-deserved ovation as they exited the floor one-by-one.

These Cougars have much to look forward to next season, returning three key players, Quinci Eller, Jess Yoder and Abby Reinke. They will be helped by returning role players Carly Yoder, Jill Griffin and Kate Hickner. Several of the JV players will be asked to step into roles to help the varsity - Maria Lewis, Paige Barnes and Katelynn Aldridge. These Cougars will most likely be the core of next season's varsity team. With an 8th grade class that will be joining these ladies next season, the cupboard is being stocked for continued success well into the future.
