The Chancel Players of Lafayette will present "A Sleep of Prisoners" on Feb. 27 and 28.

The production, which is a part of the 2009 Tippecanoe Religious Arts Festival, will be performed at Christ United Methodist Church, 3610 18th Street and 350 South, Lafayette, at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

"A Sleep of Prisoners" by Christopher Fry is the story of four prisoners of war who are held in a temporary prison inside a church sanctuary in enemy territory. The play, which first appeared on Broadway in 1951, explores the themes of human conflict, the meaning of life, sacrifice, and hope as it interweaves into dream sequences the Biblical stories of Cain and Able, King David and his son Absalom, Abraham and Isaac, and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

Sam Davenport, transitional pastor at Flora First Christian Church, portrays Private Tim Meadows. The production is directed by Rod Dimmick and produced by special arrangements with The Dramatist Play Service, Inc.

The goal of the Chancel Players of Lafayette, a member of the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, is to produce entertaining yet thought provoking plays with a moral, ethical, and spiritual focus.
