Nearly two weeks after a fire destroyed a steel fleet shop owned by Hog Slat Inc., the cause of the fire and the estimate of damage have yet to be determined, said general manager Richard Hicks.

The fire was reported around 9:40 p.m. Feb. 5. Firefighters from all seven volunteer departments in the county were called in to battle the blaze.

"They stayed on it all night," said Hicks, "putting out hot spots. We can't say enough about the wonderful job they did."

No injuries were reported, however firefighters had to brave below zero temperatures.

The 80-foot by 60-foot garage is located on North Meridian Road between Camden and Flora. According to Hicks, items destroyed included four tractors, four trailers, 96 ton of feed, a skid steer, petroleum products, and miscellaneous parts for trucks and the feed mill. He indicated that a number of motors appear to be salvageable.
