Carroll prepares for visit from NC team
At Monday night's Carroll School Board meeting, juniorsenior high school principal Charles Huckstep reported on the coming visit from the North Central Association Quality Assurance Team.
Members of the Carroll Leadership Team that have prepared for this visit are Huckstep, assistant principal Fred Schnarr, guidance director Kris Seward, guidance counselor Scott Collins, teachers Debbie Duff and Susan Abbott, parents Tammi Arnett and Jennifer Spesard, business partner Barb Payne, and students Alix Parrett and Jordan Hendershot.
Huckstep said the school will be evaluated on the following standards: vision and purpose, governance and leadership, teaching and learning, documenting and using results, resources and support systems, stakeholder communications and relationships, and commitment to continuous improvement.
In the final analysis, the North Central team will determine if the school is to be designated accredited or non-accredited.
Huckstep said there are various levels of accreditation including accredited, accredited on advisement, accredited warned, and accredited probation.
The Carroll Leadership Team came up with the following vision statement: "We at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School envision a school where students develop intellectually and socially as members of a safe, disciplined, respectful community. Students are engaged in a challenging curriculum that meets state and national standards and prepares them for future endeavors. Students reach their full potential with assistance from highly qualified faculty and staff, dedicated and involved parents/guardians, and a supportive community."
Huckstep said he wanted students to be exposed to this vision statement so he asked teachers to incorporate it into their lesson plans.
He said there will be an exit interview where the quality assurance review team will give an overview of how the school measured up. Then in about a month, the school will get an evaluation document.
The school is responsible for acting on the team's recommendations and sharing the team's findings with the school community.
The team's visit is next week.
Elementary principal Carolyn O'Connell announced that Cargill Meat Solutions awarded the school a grant for $250. As a combined project with the grant and with school funds, the school will purchase a newspaper and magazine display rack and a book display cabinet for the library.
The board approved the purchase of a copier for the elementary school at a cost of $9,733. It will be purchased from Cardinal Office Products.
The board accepted the $5,800 quote from The Royal Painting Company for ceiling painting and cleaning in the junior-senior high school gym.
Robert Smith of Deer Creek was hired as head custodian at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School.
The seventh grade Blue Chip Basketball Team was given permission to use the high school gym for practice from now to April 1.
The date for the next regular board meeting was changed to March 4 (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.
