Based on Harper Lee's best-selling, Pulitzer Prizewinning novel, adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel, the play deals with the themes of racism and prejudice, compassion and courage, and the nature of justice in our society.
The IRT, located in Indianapolis, is a teaching theatre. Every year some 45,000 students from Indiana schools attend plays that support their classroom curriculum. IRT provides a dynamic approach to students' educational experience by offering study guides and other preparation materials, classroom visits via its Artists in the Classroom program, post-show discussions with the actors, and behind-the-scene tours. The in-depth theatre experience helps teachers give their students a field lesson, not just a field trip.
Founded in 1972, the Indiana Repertory Theatre is the only fully professional notfor profit theatre in the state and has grown into one of the leading regional theatres in the country. Its goal as a topflight cultural institution is to provide experiences that engage, surprise, challenge and entertain.
