Editor's Note: Last week's Looking Back photo showed a group of "Cutler boys" in 1939, but with only two identified. When Clayton Hutson of Cutler saw the photo, he came into the Comet office with the full identification. According to Hutson, those pictured (l-r) are Lawrence Allen, Doyle Jervis, Byron Jervis, Dorval Allen, Max Wilson, Harold Allen, and Cleo Wilson.

Several Delphi residents are wondering when the talent scouts will be around to see one of their friends.

Reports are that, during the Chubby Checker performance at the Holiday Star Theater at Merrillville Saturday night, Pam McCord (Mike's wife) went up on the stage and danced with Chubby before that audience of 5,000.

Legend says that long ago, a man named Valentine owned a beautiful garden where children came to play.

One day this kind man was imprisoned for life by the King, but he could not forget the children. He sent them a white dove carrying a note addressed "To the children I love," and with this note he sent them the key to his garden so they could continue to play there.

For the rest of his life he remembered all his friends with the message carried by a dove and these became known as the first valentines.

As disagreeable and unpleasant as the weather has been, it still provided some pleasure for ice skating enthusiasts. Not on the jammed, giant pieces of ice in the dangerous river of course, but in pleasant Riley Park where the earlier melted snow and rain froze to make an ideal place to skate. The big park lights provided plenty of illumination and there was a blazing fire nearby to keep the skaters warm.

The Delphi Fire Department answered three calls during the past week to aid in subduing minor blazes. Scenes of the fires were the VanSickle Paint Shop, the Kneisly residence in Sunset Park and the Union Oil station on Monroe street, where an automobile had caught fire.

Mrs. Monroe Kirkpatrick whose husband was killed when he fell down the elevator shaft in the court house in Delphi the week in September 1933 has filed suit for compensation against the county commissioners with the state industrial board at Indianapolis.

Much interest has been already manifested in the Big Four Invitational Tourney which is to be held in the local Armory, Saturday afternoon and evening. The participating teams are Camden, Young America, New Waverly and Rockfield.

All of these teams have been playing fine basketball all season and they should stage a great tourney here Saturday.

Rockfield has the best team they have had for a number of years and have a good chance to win at least one game if not the tourney. The Camden team is better than most of the teams in Carroll county, holding wins over all of the better fives except Delphi.
