Oracle wrestlers repeat as Sectional champs

Atwood and Everett remain undefeated

The Oracles successfully defended their title for the back-to-back win with all 14 team members placing.

Delphi led the pack with 281.5 points. Harrison was second with 225.5, followed by McCutcheon 208, Jeff 166, Seeger 139, Benton Central 118, West Lafayette 75.5,Carroll 62, Central Catholic 53 and Attica 4.

Individually, the Oracles had six champions. Bob Floyd and Braden Atwood each won their third sectional title, while Wes Everett won his second.

At 112, Floyd (11- 3) pinned all three of his opponents. Nathan McTigue (23-5) at 130 won all three of his matches by decision. At 140, freshman Tanner Lynde (31- 6) won his first title with one pin and two decisions. At 171, Atwood (38- 0) kept his undefeated season perfect by pinning all of his opponents. At 215, senior Travis Yoakum (24-4) won by two decisions and one pin on his way to his first title. Senior Wes Everett (36-0) at 285 kept his undefeated season going by pinning all three of his opponents in the first period.

Atwood Atwood The Oracles had two runners-up. At 145, Aaron Back (25-6) lost a one point decision in the finals and at 189, Daniel Clawson (23-12) got caught under his opponent. Both wrestlers won two matches enroute to the finals.

Placing third for the Oracles were: 119- Stephen Back (23-8), 152 - Dayton Rummell (20-14) and 160 - Brandon Delaney (27-8). The Oracles had two fourth place finishers in 103 - Austin Jones (12-11) and 125 - Cody Alderman (16-14). Cory Smith (17-16), who placed sixth, had battled all day with a nagging injury.

The team will compete in the Peru Regional today, Wednesday, at 6 p.m. The Oracles will wrestle West Central and Peru will wrestle Marion. The two winners will wrestle immediately after for the regional title and move on to the state team meet.

"All 14 wrestlers wrestled at or above their seed," said Atwood. Alderman was not seeded and placed fourth and Jones and Rummell jumped two places from their seeds. That is where we won."
